Acer palmatum. Japanese maple tree. Ironic really. A Japanese maple found in China. I had one in my garden before. They bud red & turn green in the sun then hibernate throughout 'winter' only to bloom again next spring. Good thing I didn't uproot the bald tree in the first year. Plants can teach you so much just when you thought they're dead. :)
